Elise Brett, MD

Dr. Elise Brett received her B.S. from the University of Michigan and her M.D. degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She trained in internal medicine and endocrinology and metabolism at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Upon completion of her fellowship in 1999, she joined a private practice and remained as an attending at The Mount Sinai Hospital. She is currently Associate Clinical Professor at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She also has privileges at Lenox Hill Hospital. She has been in solo clinical practice since 2017.

Dr. Brett holds Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) and has been performing neck ultrasounds and thyroid biopsies in the office since 1999. Dr. Brett co-authored the textbook Nutritional Strategies for the Diabetic and Prediabetic Patient and co-edited, with Dr. Jeffrey Mechanick, The Complete Guide to Lifelong Nutrition. They also published two practical handbooks, Nutritional Medicine Pocket and Diabetes Pocket. She has contributed chapters to textbooks on thyroid cancer, nutrition, and obesity, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and clinical practice guidelines on the topics of thyroid cancer, obesity, adrenal disease, parathyroid disease, and nutrition. She has lectured locally and nationally on diabetes, obesity, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, and nutrition support.

Dr. Brett has been actively involved with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) for many years, serving on numerous committees and on the AACE Board of Directors from 1998–1999 and again from 2013–2020.

Dr. Brett lives on the Upper East Side with her husband, daughter, and cat. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking elaborate meals for friends and family, studying oenology, and earned a sommelier certificate in 2025. She also enjoys cycling, playing tennis, and taking long walks.
